September 2019 saw the launch of the NXP SR100T chipset with the latest 11th generation of the Apple iPhone, with Ultra-Wideband technology.  The two developments enable the use of digital keys to gain access for different users of the same vehicle without need for conventional key fobs, thus enhancing convenience and becoming an enabler for new car sharing services.  But more importantly, UWB provides the location precision to ensure security from car thieves that have developed methods to steal vehicles using relay attacks.
