Report Summary:

Strategy Analytics conducted a user experience evaluation of the Smart Summon automated “valet” feature from Tesla.  The feature is the first Level 4 automated driving system to break the bounds of trade show demos and reach the hands of car owners.  It also contains serious design flaws, especially within the Tesla app’s HMI.  The viral rollout of Smart Summon raises alarms about how the automotive industry is testing AV technology, and how unregulated beta testing on public roads poses serious ethical and legal risks.
