Report Summary:

Strategy Analytics conducted a user experience benchmark of the Pilot Assist semi-autonomous driving system on the 2016 Volvo XC90, and an expert evaluation of Pilot Assist II on the 2017 Volvo XC90.  Although driving movements were mostly accurate and comfortable, and the controls were intuitive, first-time users found the visual HMI difficult to understand.  The lack of audible feedback at hand-off in both versions of Pilot Assist is a misstep for a crucial moment in the autonomous driving user experience.  The increase in maximum functional speed for Pilot Assist II addressed concerned consumers had regarding the practicality of Pilot Assist.
