V2X is a vehicle connectivity technology that stands for ‘vehicle to everything’. With V2X cars can connect to other cars (V2V), infrastructure (V2I) or pedestrians and cyclists (V2P), to improve traffic safety and efficiency.
Examples of use cases that could improve safety are the timely notification of traffic jams lurking around the next bend, spillages or black ice on the road, an emergency vehicle running a red light or the presence of a Vulnerable Road User (VRU) in poor visibility conditions.
Traffic efficiency could improve if traffic light algorithms could better consider the presence and the volume of the traffic they are managing, including pedestrians at crosswalks. Further improvements would be made if the availability of parking spaces was communicated and updated in real time.
This report provides results of a recent online survey in the US, Western Europe, and China looking at which V2X features are important to drivers. It also provides insights on whether importance varies with age or tech adoption group.
