Strategy Analytics surveyed consumers in the US, Western Europe, and China regarding their usage of and satisfaction with in-car voice recognition systems, and satisfaction with in-car touchscreens. Usage of voice controls is on the rise, especially for one particular task in the car. Satisfaction with in-car touchscreens continues its decrease, reaching a 5-year low in one region. The ubiquity of touch-and-voice HMI outside the car has irreparably impacted consumer expectations for in-car UX. These expectations are clashing with current cockpit design, as users are now looking for ways to work around embedded HMI, rather than with it.
