Xiaomi, Huawei, and Meizu: Winning in "Alibaba 2016.11.11 Shopping Festival”

Alibaba recorded RMB 121billion (USD18 billion) gross merchandise volume - up 32% YoY - for “2016.11.11 Shopping Festival”, the one-day event that the Chinese company organized annually since 2014. Xiaomi, Huawei (Honor), and Meizu were selected by Alibaba into the Top 10 Performing Brands of this year's event.

Xiaomi achieved RMB1.3 billion (USD 0.2 billion) sales within 24 hours via Alibaba’s T-mall, where its total smartphone sales topped the Android category and its Redmi 4A was the best-selling model of the day.     

Huawei (Honor) is another big winner. Its Honor 6X was the top-selling smartphone in the event till it was sold out. Honor series recorded RMB 2.2billion (USD 0.3 billion) sales, which included its sales via T-mall on Nov 11th and it sales via from Nov 1st to Nov 11th (JD is hosting a similar shopping festival during the period).

Meizu reported 1.1 million smartphones were sold in Nov 11th and YunOS-powered Meilan 5 contributed to 0.4 million units. The number included both online and offline channels. 

The result of Alibaba’s Shopping Festival showed the vigour of Chinese smartphone market and the power of Pure E-Retailers in the market . It also synced with our observation that Xiaomi is back to the right track and YunOS smartphones is enjoying the strong momentum in China.
