5.5+ Inch Screen Phones Show Significant Rise in Data Use

by User Not Found | Dec 04, 2017

As the market adoption of mobile devices with larger screen sizes grows, so too grows the data load on operator networks. In a recent AppOptix report, we quantified the device use differences between devices of varying screen sizes. Some of the findings are highlighted below:

  • Devices with screens less than 4.5 inches show considerably less usage across all three key metrics – number of daily sessions, minutes of use per day, and megabytes (MB) use per day.
  • The statistics on daily minutes and sessions begin to compare and level off for devices between 4.5 and 5.5 inches.
  • Of note are devices in the 5.5+ inch group – the number of app sessions/day (i.e., number of times an app is opened and/or is brought to the screen’s foreground) is in the low-140s. Similarly, the data on minutes of use/day is 261.4 minutes and data use/day at 840.3 MB (both cell & Wi-Fi).

Additional details, with a breakout of cellular and Wi-Fi use by screen size, are provided in the report.
