Huawei Mate 30 Series Hit China Market with Aggressive Pricing

by Yiwen Wu | Sep 27, 2019

Huawei introduced Mate 30 series on September 19th in Munich Germany. Yesterday Huawei brought the new series back to China market with very aggressive pricing.

The new series starts from RMB3999 (USD560) at retail and the Pro version starts from RMB5799 (USD812). 5G version comes with higher price point. But all of them are significantly cheaper than their overseas pricing and the “discount” reaches over 30% for 8GB+128GB Mate 30 4G version.

The aggressive pricing will help Mate 30 series to boost sales in China, the most important market for Huawei at the moment. It will help the vendor to solidify its leadership in price-tier between USD300-500 (wholesale). But on the other hand, we are concerned that it will cannibalize Huawei’s profit margin in the following quarters.

The 4G version of Mate 30 series hit the market right after yesterday’s launch event. The initial result is encouraging: RMB 50 million sales were achieved in Huawei’s own online store within 1 minute after the sale of new series starts. The 5G version of Mate 30 series will arrive in the market in November 2019. Operator’s support will be critical at that time and it remains to be clarified in the following weeks.
