Vivo Needs to Carefully Manage its Offline Channels

Vivo recorded a great Q4 2016 with +92% YoY increase in volume and +167% annual growth in revenue. Vivo is the world 5th largest smartphone vendor by volume this quarter.

Behind its strong momentum, we however observe some headwinds that might hamper its growth in 2017. The rising Chinese vendor needs to address below challenges carefully this year: in domestic market, how to manage and monetize its wide number of offline distributors especially in lower tier cities? Outside China, how to quickly copycat its China success and how to balance long term investment and short term target?
