Google Pixel Phones Push into Top 10 List in US Smartphone Market During Q4 2016

by Linda Sui | Feb 04, 2017

It has been four months since Google formally launching Pixel and Pixel XL phones. How did it perform during holiday season in US market?

According to the latest report from our Wireless Smartphone Strategies (WSS) services: North America Smartphone Vendor & OS Market Share by Country : Q4 2016, Pixel phones delivered an encouraging start with 2% volume share. While the volume is modest, it helped Google push into top 10 list for the first time ever.

As we projected in this report in October, higher prices and limited distribution channels (exclusively at Verizon and online store) remain major bottlenecks for Google’s ambition in the mobile hardware business. We recommend Google diversify further its distributor / retailer / carrier partnerships in more countries to scale up volumes in 2017.
