Sony has finally confirmed it will launch the PlayStation VR headset worldwide in October 2016. Our WDE (Wearables) service estimates it will be priced around a reasonable (but not cheap) US$300 wholesale (trade). This is roughly half the price of the HTC Vive and a third less than the Oculus Rift. The price of virtual reality headsets -- either smartphone-, PC- or console-connected -- varies wildly at the moment and it is clear the industry is now shaping up for what we expect to be a fierce pricing war in the coming quarters. Especially when the ambitious Chinese brands with low cost-bases, like ZTE, start to ramp-up their output in 2017.
