Google announced its
Pixel smartwatch back in May 2022. Recent Internet chatter now suggests the new watch, due in Sep-Oct, will soon support
Google Fi 4G (not 5G) and a monthly Google Fi subscription plan in its home US market.
This would be the
first time Google Fi is supported on a
smartwatch. A landmark event.
Google Fi connectivity is
flexible, rich, and relatively secure. For example, you can choose from at least 3 data plans, it may be possible to use Wi-Fi calling, access a VPN, block spam, or monitor family controls for younger users.
If Google Fi is coming to one or more sub-models of the Pixel Watch -- as long as
battery life is not too short, and other carriers do not object -- we would view that as a
positive development for the vendor. Google Fi can be a Pixel differentiator in America.
