by Steven Waltzer | Jan 08, 2019

Strategy Analytics Wearables Service brings you daily coverage of the year’s largest consumer electronics convention: CES 2019. The show kicks off from Las Vegas this week from Tues Jan 8 – Fri Jan 11 with wearables announcements expected across various device types.  Major trends expected from the show floor this year include:

  • Cellular smartwatches are poised for a boost this year in part due to the newly announced Garmin Vivoactive 3 Music (though withOUT e-sim)
  • Healthcare wearables are gaining traction as Omron, Withings and Garmin bring FDA approved blood pressure sensing, ECG at an affordable price point, and fall/incident detection to their new models, respectively.
  • Child and elder tracker watches are making a splash, with new models from brands such as Coolpad and Omate.
  • Smartglasses will begin coming down the price curve this year with the more affordable (relative to Hololens/Magic Leap) Vuzix Blade smartglasses. Sales will continue to focus on the enterprise space, however, as a mass market price-point is still a couple years down the road.
  • A wearable skin care patch from L'Oréal which reads skin ph level and recommends skin care products tailored to the users skin, wearable clothing designs from Cronolife and HeartBit (both with ECG), and the SmartSleep snore relief head band from Phillips round out the roster of other more niche wearable device types exhibiting at CES this year.

Our posts throughout this week will delve into a few of these products in more detail as well as keep readers abreast of any new announcements from the show floor.  Stay tuned!
