Q2 ‘22: Samsung: Record High Smartphone ASP in 8 Years

by Peng Peng | Jul 29, 2022

Samsung held the first spot and shipped 62.5 million smartphones worldwide in Q2 2022. The company registered a solid annual revenue growth not only because its increased shipment, but also a highest ASP in eight years, making it outstanding in the smartphone industry in this quarter.

Samsung's handset ASP has kept increasing for four consecutive quarters. Despite global headwinds such as weak demand due to the inflation triggered by the Ukraine-Russia war and economic downturns in some of the major markets, shipment of premier-tier models seemed to be robust since their target customer were less impacted. The greater mix of Galaxy S series and lower mix of A series delivered this high ASP in Q2 2022.

In terms of regions, only Central & Eastern Europe suffered a recession as the direct result of the war. In North America, Asia Pacific, and Africa & Middle East, Samsung's shipment had steady growths. In Central & Latin America and Western Europe, Samsung's shipment growths even climbed to double digits.

Samsung's profit margin is still healthy and as the tech innovation leader of Android campaign, Samsung's upcoming 4th generation of foldable phones will definitely attract our eyes. However, facing the intensified competition from new iPhones, Samsung is expected to have a softer quarter ahead.
