Apple’s total global smartphone shipments went up +3% annually to 47.5 million units in Q2 2022. Despite the relatively small growth, the company beat expectations in a challenging environment, performing much better than the overall market, which declined -7% YoY in Q2 2022.
Apple remained at number two in the ranking of the largest smartphone vendors with 16% share of the global shipments in Q2 2022, behind Samsung at the top spot. This is the best second quarter global smartphone market share for Apple in the past ten years.
Although expectations for Q2 2022 were not high, Apple managed to navigate better than most companies with its superior supply chain and logistics. The results also show that the component shortages have now eased and are unlikely to be a major factor anymore.
