Global Smartphone Installed Base Will Grow +4% YoY in 2022

by Yiwen Wu | Dec 20, 2021

Strategy Analytics forecast the global smartphone installed base will grow +4% YoY in 2022.

Despite of the escalated supply constraints, mixed consumer spending power, and bumpy COVID 19 recovery paths, we expect global smartphone installed base will continue to grow in 2022 and onwards, driven by improved economic outlook, 5G migration, new hardware innovation, intensified competition, as well as the availability of more affordable devices in emerging markets.

  • Android will remain its leadership in global smartphone market by installed base during our forecast period. Meanwhile, iOS will enjoy solid growth, benefiting from Huawei's fallout in premium segment and penetration towards lower price segment with legacy devices and new SE devices.
  • Harmony OS extended to smartphone domain in Q3 2021. Its impact to global smartphone OS market is rather limited at moment. Lack of 5G chipset access and other vendors’ support have made its outlook cloudy.
