OPPO Posted Solid Growth in China and in Overseas Markets in Q4 2020

by Yiwen Wu | Feb 08, 2021

OPPO’s smartphone shipments went up +14% YoY in Q4 2020. It took shares from Huawei and gained momentum in overseas markets. OPPO posted the annual growth in all the regions that it operates.

Despite of strong volume growth, OPPO’s ASP and profitability fell. The ASP decrease reflects the larger portion of A series in its portfolio, while the profitability decline is associated with the vendor’s aggressive expansion in overseas markets.

Reno 5 series is arguably the most important product launch for OPPO in Q4 2020, and its initial sales result is very encouraging. The accumulated brand equity, lower price point, less intensified competition from Huawei, and increased marketing efforts combined drive up its sales performance.

OPPO is gaining momentum both in home market and in overseas markets. In home market, OPPO is adjusting its offline channel strategies to penetrate to more addressable markets. It is also making progress in the online channel. In the overseas market, the vendor continued its aggressive expansions by entering two new markets (Ireland and South Africa). OPPO’s momentum in Western Europe is very robust and we expect it will soon Huawei becoming the fourth largest vendor in the region.
