Xiaomi Becomes World’s Third Largest Smartphone Vendor

by Boris Metodiev | Nov 09, 2020

Xiaomi’s total global smartphone shipments grew an impressive 45% YoY in Q3 2020, a great feat considering that the overall smartphone market grew just 0.1% YoY in Q3 2020.

Xiaomi’s global marketshare by volume thus increased to all-time high of 13%, and the firm climbed up to number three in the smartphone market ranking, overtaking Apple along the way.

This is the first time in five years, where any vendor has managed to break the triopoly of Samsung, Apple and Huawei at the top of the global smartphone ranking.

Q3 2020 has been a truly remarkable quarter for Xiaomi with many record highs:

  • Highest ever quarterly shipments
  • Highest ever global market share at 13%
  • Highest ever smartphone ranking position at #3
  • Highest ever quarterly wholesale revenue

Xiaomi performance during a challenging Covid-19 period was boosted by an extensive online presence, affordable devices and great 5G lineup.
