Huawei Volume Went Down in Q4 19 and Coronavirus Caused Strong Headwinds Ahead

by Yiwen Wu | Feb 06, 2020

Huawei lost its momentum in Q4 2019. It slowed down the momentum in home market and encountered annual decline in all overseas markets. Its smartphone shipments declined -7% YoY globally and its wholesale revenue dropped -3% YoY.

Huawei strengthened its 5G portfolio this quarter, but suffered from overstocked 4G inventories in channels. Despite of a good start on 5G market, Huawei is facing strong headwinds in 2020.

It is suffering badly from the outbreak of coronavirus in home market. We expect China smartphone market would see a sharp decline during 1H 2020. In overseas markets, Huawei will keep suffering from the no access of GMS. Given the average one year life cycle of Huawei smartphone models, we expect Huawei will keep falling in all major overseas markets this year.
