Will Huawei OS Challenge Google Android?

Due to the uncertainty around Google’s Android support, Huawei is expected to launch own proprietary operating system late this year or early next year. The new OS is reportedly to be Linux-based and can be used across multiple device categories in Huawei hardware portfolio. It is not an easy job launching a new OS platform. Huawei would test water in IoT and smart home products first, and then gradually extends towards smartphones and other products.

If it to be launched in smartphones, what lessons should Huawei take from the failure of other platforms, such as Tizen, Microsoft, Firefox, Sailfish, and Ubuntu etc.? Will it challenge the dominance of Android and iOS in smartphone domain? What are the opportunities and challenges for the new operating system?
