Huawei Refreshed its Young-Female-Oriented Nova Series and Introduced Nova 4 in China

by Yiwen Wu | Dec 17, 2018

Huawei officially launched nova 4 today in Changsha China. The new model targets to young female users and it is the vendor’s latest efforts to attack OPPO and vivo in the segment.

Nova 4 is powered by Huawei’s Kirin 970 chipset, same as its predecessor nova 3. Its major upgrades lie in the display side and camera side. The new model comes with the new “hole-design” and the reduced screen-to-body ratio (nova 4 has 86% STD ratio, while nova 3 has 83%). In addition, nova 4 features a 25MP in-screen front camera and a triple-lens rear camera module (48MP+16MP+2MP for advanced variant and 20MP+16MP+2MP for the standard variant).

Equipped with 8GB+128GB memory, nova 4 is priced at RMB 3099 (~USD 450) and RMB 3399 (~USD 490) in retail for the standard variant and for the advanced variant, respectively. Both variants will hit the market in Dec 27th first in China and we expect they will land to overseas markets in 2019.

Nova 4 is Huawei’s latest efforts to attack OPPO’s and vivo’s leadership in young female segment in China. Back by its competitive product offering, halo effect from Huawei’s premium models, and effective marketing campaigns, we are optimistic about nova 4's performance in the upcoming quarters. On the other hand, we are concerned on the potential cannibalization risks between nova 4 and the upcoming Honor V20 which was lite launched last week.
