Huawei Solidified Leading Position in US$300-500 Band

According to our latest report from Wireless Smartphone Strategies (WSS) service: Value Share: Global Smartphone Revenue, ASP and Profit by Vendor by Price Tier: Q3 2018, global smartphone revenue grew +10% annually during Q3 2018 thanks to the improved ASP, which up +20% YoY. We are under big cycle of smartphone revenue and ASP recent quarters, while smartphone volume contracted during the same time of period mainly due to lengthening replacement cycle and saturated penetration etc..

Apple maintained top position as the largest vendor by revenue, followed by Samsung, Huawei and OPPO. Apple, Huawei, OPPO, vivo and Xiaomi posted improved revenue and ASP. In contrast, Samsung posted annual decline by revenue this quarter.

Notably Huawei beat all rivals and led the pack in US$300-500 band by both volume and value this quarter, indicating the Chinese vendor's success in shifting up strategy. Its Nova series sold very well in home market and eat market share from rivals such as OPPO and vivo in this band. Flagship P20 series also stood out in premium segment thanks to Leica triple camera and solid image quality / user experience.
