Is the New Pixel 3 Ready to Take Off?

by Yiwen Wu | Oct 11, 2018

Google launched Pixel 3 and 3 XL in New York on October 9th, 2018.

As the latest premium models, they did not impress us by hardware innovation. Lack of dual rear camera and the small memory size are the top two drawbacks for Pixel 3 series.

But as the reference devices of Android camp, Pixel 3 models showcased the latest innovation in Android AI related software and services. The photo capturing features (Top Shot, Night Sight, and Super Res Zoom) and the new Call Screen feature have demoed Google’s strength to integrate hardware with its software and AI capability.

Google has made progress to roll out Pixel series into more mature markets, slowly but also steadily. However, in US market, Verizon continues being the exclusive carrier to carry Pixel 3 models. We believe higher price tag and limited distribution channel would continue capping the performance of Pixel 3 models in global smartphone market.
