Huawei Posts Strong Q1 2018 Results, but US Remains a Problem

by Boris Metodiev | May 22, 2018

Huawei announced strong Q1 2018 results, including a +14% YoY growth in smartphone shipments, +25% YoY increase in wholesale revenue and a record-high ASP. Global marketshare of 11% in 1Q 2018 is also highest ever for the company.

The positive numbers are result of aggressive expansion internationally and extending Huawei’s reach across the world. Compared to same time last year, the company more than tripled its smartphone shipments in Central & Eastern Europe and it also achieved significant growth in Africa Middle East.

While the most important country for Huawei is still the home market of China, where it sold more than half of its overall smartphones, the company also made enormous strides in India, which became its second largest market. Despite all that, Huawei continues to struggle to make its mark in US, which was only exacerbated by the increasing tension between the US and Chinese governments.
