As a key catalyst, display technology has played an important role to reshape smartphone industry. AMOLED display will continue to be an effective differentiator for smartphone vendors in 2018, backed by its technological advantage and its constrained supply.

Given the unbalanced relationship between the supply and the demand of AMOLED displays in 2018, we expect smartphone vendors will compete fiercely to get the high-quality components, especially the flexible ones. As a result, vendors with more scale, more financial strength, and stronger relationship with display supplier will enjoy a better position to access to these components.

We estimate that the top 19 smartphone vendors will consume the majority AMOLED flexible displays in 2018. Among them, Samsung and Apple combined will take over 90% AMOLED flexible display.
