Xiaomi is Rumored to Partner with Google on Android One Initiative in India?

In addition to Indonesia, Xiaomi is now rumored to bring a new portfolio of low-cost "pure" Android One smartphones to India. It is reported that the new model is based on Xiaomi’s Mi 5X and powered by pure Android instead of MIUI. If the rumor comes true, it will be Google’s latest try for its Android One initiative in India.

In Q2 2017, we at Strategy Analytics tracked Xiaomi as the second largest smartphone vendor in India. Its low cost Redmi series continued to capture the top spots on the list of best-selling smartphones in the country. Our survey shows Xiaomi Leads India Smartphone Purchase Intention. Xiaomi’s strong momentum in India and its successful in low-cost Android models make it a solid candidate for Google to partner with in the country for its Android One initiative.
