Over 5.5 inch Smartphones will Capture 47% of Total Sales by 2020

by Woody Oh | Jul 26, 2017

According to the very recent report, 'Smartphone Sales Forecast by Display Size : Phablets and Superphones from 2003 through 2022', published under our Wireless Smartphone Strategies (WSS) service, the bigger-screen smartphones with over 5.5 inch display size are expected to take 34% share of all smartphones sold this year, growing up to 47% and 52% by 2020 and 2022 respectively.

Standard Phablet (5.0 to 5.99 inch) and Super Phablet (6.0 to 6.99 inch) combined will be projected to dominate the smartphone market with 63% share this year, and will be increased up to a huge 80% by the end of 2022.

The richer and more comfortable contents (video / education / navigation / game / etc) experience, users' consistent preference for bigger display with comfortable grip feeling and the new shift towards bezeless and full display concept, pioneered by leading vendors such as Samsung, Apple, LG, Xiaomi and others will contribute to stronger market share of over 5.5 inch in the next several years.

The in-detail market share and insights around the smartphone volume by each display size by region can be viewed at this WSS link.
