China and India Combined to Take Half of Global Smartphone Online Sale Volume in 2017

by Linda Sui | Jul 18, 2017

According to the latest forecast report from our WSS services: Smartphone Sales by Distribution Channel Forecast for 30 Countries : Offline vs. Online (Pure E-Retailer), the distribution of smartphones through online channels will grow an above-average +11% worldwide in 2017.  Meanwhile, pure e-retailers have already outweighed other online players being the dominating role in global online smartphone channel from 2015.

India and China are especially active and have experienced a Golden Age for online smartphone distribution. China will maintain as the largest country with highest online smartphone volumes by 2022. However, India will enjoy the highest pure e-retailer ratio worldwide by 2022, mainly thanks to less powerful online stores from other players. The two countries together will make up 50% of global smartphone online sale volumes this year.

Flipkart maintain the largest e-retailer position in India. Lenovo-Motorola and Xiaomi topped Indian smartphone online market in 2017. However, the competition landscape would change this year under the intensified competition from other Chinese players, mainly including Xiaomi etc.

JD maintain as the No. 1 pure e-retailer in China at this moment. Xiaomi ranked top in China smartphone online market last year, but Huawei Honor nudged up and closed the distance with Xiaomi.
