Sony going forward would be focussing only on the Flagship and Mid-tier smartphones. In line, with its steady retreat from the smartphone market, the vendor would now be pulling the plug on what it calls the ‘premium standard’ category. The vendor despite launching five handsets in the first quarter of 2017 has not managed to get the momentum back in the market. Chinese vendors with better manufacturing efficiencies and economies of scale, have grown in the global market at the expense of global vendors like Sony.
