OPPO posted a strong quarter again. Its global smartphone shipment grew +78% YoY in Q1 2017. OPPO solidified its position as the largest smartphone vendor in Asia Pacific. In India, it pushed into top 5 list for the first time ever. OPPO’s overseas expansion started to bear fruit.
R9s continued being the star model and biggest contributor behind the strong momentum in Q1. In overseas market, the launch of F3 and F3 Plus model this quarter resonated well with its new brand positioning: enhanced camera phone. It also enriched the vendor’s product portfolio for overseas market.
OPPO has quietly made progress in overseas markets. India recorded strong gain this quarter. We expect OPPO will push aggressively into India in the coming months, posing a threat to established vendors like Samsung, Xiaomi, Lenovo-Motorola and local vendors. The vendor’s next challenge in 2017 is to expand beyond China and continue its momentum in emerging regions like Nigeria.
