by Yiwen Wu | Oct 25, 2016

Xiaomi announced 2 premium devices today in Beijing: Mi Mix and Mi Note 2, behind which display is the key differentiator.

Mi Note 2 is Xiaomi’s first smartphone with a dual-edged display. The device is equipped with a 5.7-inch OLED display supplied by LG, a Snapdragon 821 processor, a 4070mAh battery, and a 22.56MP rear camera. It comes with two variants: a 4GB+64GB version costs RMB2799 ($412) in China and a 6GB+128GB version for RMB3299 ($486). Outside of China, the 6GB+128GB is available for RMB3499 ($516).

Mi MIX is Xiaomi’s latest flagship model with a “borderless” display, as shown in the picture below. The device has a 6.4-inch screen with 91.3% screen-to-body ratio, and is made out entirely from ceramics. It is powered by Snapdragon 821 processor, 4400mAh battery and 16MP rear camera. Two variants are available in China for consumers to purchase since November: 4GB+128GB for RMB3499 ($516) and 6GB+256GB for RMB3999 ($590). The international version was not announced during the event.

The launch of Mi Note 2 and Mi MIX clearly demonstrates the trend that we observed from the industry: Display is one of the most important enabling technologies that will drive the innovation in smartphone industry. It also shows the trend that Chinese handset vendors are shifting their efforts from low-end product segments towards more premium tiers
