Global Smartphone Wholesale Revenue will Grow +7% YoY in 2017

by Linda Sui | Oct 18, 2016

According to the latest forecast report from our Wireless Smartphone Strategies (WSS) services, Global Smartphone ASP and Revenue Forecast by 88 Countries : 2012-2022, global smartphone wholesale revenue will decline by nearly -2% YoY in 2016, mainly due to slipping smartphone wholesale ASP, which will fall -5% YoY this year, as well as greater portion of entry tier and mid tier models from emerging markets.

However, we forecast global smartphone revenue will rebound with a healthy +7% annual growth rate in 2017. Technical innovations (AMOLED edged display, flexible display etc.) and migration towards advanced technologies (3G to 4G / 4.5G), component price fluctuations, as well as greater mix of replacement sales combined lead to the growth.

We forecast the top 10 largest countries to account for 70% of all smartphone revenues in 2017. We recommend prioritizing these ten countries to get an even bigger bung for your buck. The top 10 countries will be China, US, Japan, India, Indonesia, Brazil, South Korea, UK, Germany and France.
