Cyanogen Inc. Restructuring and Reducing Workforce

by Ville-Petteri Ukonaho | Jul 25, 2016

Cyanogen Inc. a marketing and sales company established to sell Cyanogen OS, the commercialized version of CyanogenMod, is reportedly reducing up to 20% of its workforce.

CyamogenMod is the most used free, modified, Android version that has a wide user base and developer community. In 2013, Cyanogen Inc. was founded by Kirt McMaster and Steve Kondik, aiming to provide customized CyanogenMod, rebadged as Cyanogen OS, to OEMs and end-users. Strategy Analytics has a comprehensive report about the Cyanogen OS here: Cyanogen OS: A Threat to Google, Microsoft and Firefox?

Now after 3 years this endeavor seems to be in troubles. Despite high profile partnerships with Qualcomm, Foxconn and Microsoft, Cyanogen OS has not managed to attract vendors and company is forced to scale down its workforce. The news comes only months after Cyanogen launched new MOD and MOD ready programs. Strategy Analytics has analyzed this in a report: Cyanogen OS Smartphones: From Apps to Mods

Time will tell what will be the new direction for Cyanogen Inc. but Strategy Analytics will continue following the company closely.
