Tizen Maintained the Fourth Largest Smartphone OS Position in Q4 2015

by Linda Sui | Feb 04, 2016

According to the latest report from our Wireless Smartphone Strategies (WSS) services : Global Smartphone OS Market Share by Region : Q4 2015, global smartphone market shipments grew +6% YoY in Q4 2015. Android registered a slight year-on-year increase in marketshare, while Apple posted weaker-than-expected results, mainly due to lackluster replacement sales and economic headwinds in some regions / countries. Microsoft and BlackBerry continued drifting down, while Tizen maintained the fourth largest OS position this quarter.

India, Bangladesh and Nepal maintain the key countries for Tizen OS. Given Samsung’s brand equity and well-established distribution channel in India and other emerging markets, Tizen OS is well-positioned to grow further. However, it is still at the very early stage and it takes time to build up a decent ecosystem with multiple models and services across multiple price tiers in wide number of markets. We believe emerging wearable products will offer more opportunities for Tizen in the short-term as it is hard to challenge the two-horse duopoly in the established smartphone market.
