The smartphone market in India continues to be in flux, with more even competition between smartphone models from the top four vendors Xiaomi, Samsung, Realme, and Vivo. Samsung managed to double its number of models in the top-10 from the previous quarter, from just two to four in the first quarter of 2022, according to recent research from Strategy Analytics’ Smartphone Model Tracker (SMT). The market leader Xiaomi suffered from supply issues and some other headwinds in its largest and most important market, and so Samsung, Vivo, and also Oppo/Realme had more models in the top-30 than in the previous quarters, taking advantage of the situation.
The only domestic smartphone model with significant market share, the Reliance Jio Phone Next, ranked second this time, beaten only by the Xiaomi Redmi 9A Sport. Apple was out of the top-10 after remarkably appearing there in Q4’21, although the iPhone 12 5G continued to rank high, being the most popular iPhone model in India.
