During the latter half of 2019, the Chinese vendor Oppo’s Realme brand has established itself as a major contender in the Indonesian smartphone market. The main Oppo brand is also performing as strong as ever, having surpassed Samsung in market share for the leading position in Q3’19 and retaining that lead in Q4’19. Together, Oppo and Realme had 5 out of 10 best-selling smartphone models in Indonesia in the fourth quarter.
Oppo has been the fastest growing smartphone brand in Indonesia already for some time, but in the most recent quarters, Vivo has started to grow equally rapidly. Vivo is still well behind the pack of the “big three”, Oppo, Samsung, and Xiaomi, but it’s definitely gaining share. With Samsung and the three Chinese companies dominating the market, the local Indonesian players such as Advan Digital and Evercoss have been pushed into the low-single-digit market share range, with little hope of recovery.
