Vivo Smartphones on the Rise in India in Q4’19, Xiaomi Remains Strong

by Juha Winter | Mar 04, 2020

Roughly half a year ago, we wrote about Samsung smartphones rebounding in India in Q2’19 due to the popularity of new A and M series models from the vendor. According to research from SA’s Smartphone Model Tracker (SMT) service, in Q3’19, Xiaomi overtook Samsung in the number of best-selling smartphone models in the top-10, and in the fourth quarter, Xiaomi was again firmly dominating the list, occupying the top-5 ranks with its models. Samsung, on the other hand, was pushed out of the top-10 save for just one model, the Galaxy M30s.

What’s perhaps even more interesting is that Vivo, though long present in the Indian smartphone market, appears to have really gotten into growth gear, nearly tripling its smartphone shipments in Q4’19 compared to Q4’18. Just looking at the top-20 best-selling models in India in Q4, Vivo had an incredible 8 models ranking on the list, more than Xiaomi, Samsung, or Oppo. It remains to be seen if Vivo can sustain this performance and threaten to overtake Samsung as the second largest vendor in India.
