For the latter half of 2018 and the first quarter of 2019, Xiaomi smartphones absolutely dominated the top-10 list of best-selling smartphones in India. In Q2 2019, however, Samsung made a rebound with its new A and M series models, having 5 models in the top-10, ahead of Xiaomi with “just” 4 models, according to recent research published by Strategy Analytics’ Smartphone Model Tracker (SMT) service.
This is not to say that Xiaomi isn’t the market leader – the Chinese vendor still has a sizable market share lead over Samsung. Even so, Samsung’s new models appear to have gotten good traction in India. The other Chinese vendors that are big in India – Oppo (including its sub-brand Realme) and Vivo – are strong between the ranks 11 and 50, but didn’t quite make it to the top-10, save for one Oppo Realme device, the Realme C2. What about India’s domestic vendors then? Well, they didn’t do very well in Q2. For more information, clients of our SMT service may refer to the report here.
