Huawei, Oppo, Vivo Smartphones were the Bestsellers in China in Q2 2018

by Juha Winter | Sep 11, 2018

Huawei was clearly the no.1 smartphone vendor in China in the second quarter of 2018, maintaining a noticeable distance to the other strong vendors Oppo and Vivo in terms of market share, the latter two roughly at the 20 percent mark. This was also reflected in the best-selling smartphone models in China – Huawei had 4 of the top-10 best-selling models, although it was Oppo that took the top spot with an R Series device. Vivo’s bestseller was not too far behind, ranking in second place, according to recent research from Strategy Analytics’ Smartphone Model Tracker (SMT) service.

The Huawei, Oppo, and Vivo devices actually dominate a good part of the top-30 or 40 devices, with Xiaomi devices also showing up occasionally. Xiaomi’s success has been spectacular in countries like India also recently Indonesia, where it became the no.2 smartphone vendor in Q2. In its native China, however, Xiaomi has recently not been quite as strong.

Although it’s fair to note that the new Apple iPhone launches are just around the corner, the iPhone X, along with other iPhone models, was ousted from the Q2 top-10 bestsellers in China, although just barely. It’s clear the new iPhones are being anxiously awaited.
