As we can recall from earlier this year, the Chinese smartphone vendor Xiaomi captured the top spot as the leading smartphone brand in India as recently as Q4 2017. Ever since then, Xiaomi has held on fiercely to its no.1 position in what is the world’s third largest smartphone market by volume and also growing at a very healthy pace. In the last two quarters, Q1 and Q2 2018, Xiaomi has secured itself a roughly 5 percentage point lead over its rival Samsung that used to dominate the Indian market.
According to the latest research from Strategy Analytics’ Smartphone Model Tracker (SMT) service, Xiaomi had four models in the top-10 best-selling smartphones of India in the second quarter, and these models ranked at the very top of the list. In particular, the Redmi 5A stood out as the best-selling smartphone. Samsung’s models performed strongly, too, but did not quite reach the very top. Vivo and Oppo are the other two Chinese vendors that have a large number of popular smartphone models in India.
