Egypt is by far the
largest smartphone market in North Africa. Carriers, such as
Orange and Vodafone, have long targeted the country for smartphone growth. Egypt today still has relatively
low smartphone penetration, and it has become an
attractive market for device manufacturers such as Samsung.
In Q1 2018,
Samsung Galaxy J7 Pro was the number one
best-selling smartphone model across Egypt. A blend of good design, keen pricing and widespread retail availability makes this a popular 4G handset. Following up in second position is the
Infinix Note 4, a 5.7-inch model with a MediaTek processor, confirming Transsion Group's well-known presence in the African region.
Surprisingly, there are no
Apple models in the top-10 rankings for Egypt. The iPhone's high price and limited distribution channels make it a tough sell in North Africa.
