Android Gain Share In Japan Smartphone Market

As all of us are already aware, Japan smartphone market has long been dominated by iPhones. Yes, it is true, and still dominated by Apple iPhones in the lastest Q3 2022 actual results. However, looking at the third quarter market share change for the last three years for two platforms, FY2020 / FY2021 / FY2022, we can see some change in which Android OEM’s have gained some more share while Apple lost some.

The combined share growth of all Android OEM’s for the last three years is closely related to (1) Mobile operators in Japan fiercely competing for bigger market share, (2) Price competition among Android OEM’s.
