Q4’21: Apple Consolidates its Leadership in the German Smartphone Market

by Rajeev Nair | Feb 10, 2022

Germany’s smartphone market declined marginally by -1% YoY in Q4 2021. While sequentially, it grew by 29% and was largely in sync with the cyclical trends. Detailed and latest analysis / estimates for the German smartphone market can be found here from our Smartphone Country Share Tracker (SCST) Service.

For the entire year of 2021, Germany’s smartphone market managed to grow by a healthy 5% annually and with relatively lesser COVID disruptions.

The top two in Apple and Samsung  have largely managed to hold on to their consolidated share. Apple, of the two, managed to grow in 2021 despite its dominance. Despite this, all the new age Chinese vendors managed double digit annual growth in the quarter

The share transfer for Chinese vendors over the last several quarters have largely happened from the likes of Huawei and LG. The German smartphone market continues to be operator controlled and the top two global vendors with their premium portfolio of smartphones continued to hold sway over them.

But will 2022 be different in Germany especially with the 5G wave sweeping Europe?

Chinese vendors in particular have been at the forefront of massifying 5G with budget devices. Will this tilt the equation in their favour?
