Argentine Smartphone Market Declined by -9% YoY in Q3 2021

by Rajeev Nair | Nov 22, 2021

The Argentine smartphone market declined by -9% annually and -16% sequentially in Q3 2021. Multitude of factors, like the COVID-19 pandemic continuing to adversely impact the country’s businesses, prevailing component supply issues for smartphone vendors and the continuing downturn in the Argentine economy, were central to the decline per our latest estimates, from the Smartphone Country Share Tracker (SCST) Service.

Samsung, Lenovo-Motorola and Xiaomi were the top three vendors with market shares of 48%, 21% and 14%. With the exit of Huawei and LG, the grip of top vendors has only strengthened in this Latin American market. Samsung’s domination here has been particularly impressive. But it has competition from Chinese vendors like Xiaomi which doubled its market share in the quarter from over a year back.

Can these new age Chinese vendors pose challenges to Samsung in Argentina, as they have done in other markets?

Would the Argentine Smartphone market recover in 2021 as the country comes out of lock downs?
