Q2’21: TRANSSION Brands Have Competition in Nigeria Now?

by Rajeev Nair | Aug 24, 2021

TRANSSION brands dominated the Nigerian Smartphone market in Q2 2021. Per our prelim estimates, from the Smartphone Country Share Tracker (SCST) Service Tecno, Itel and Infinix  together accounted for over 6 in 10 devices shipped to the country. They also went on to grab the top three positions.

However, with the Tier 1 Chinese vendors now making their presence in Nigeria, TRANSSION has strong competition to contend with. The likes of Xiaomi have a strong budget product portfolio with their Redmi series to engage the Nigerian budget conscious consumers. Xiaomi was the vendor with the highest annual growth rate in Q2 2021.

Nigeria is the second largest smartphone market in the African region. Samsung, to take on this heightened competition would have to focus on the low end and mid rage Galaxy series of devices to stem its market share losses.
