Q1’20: COVID Took Down Most Smartphone Markets

by Rajeev Nair | May 22, 2020

The “Next 45 markets” that we track accounted for 26% of the global smartphone shipments in Q1 2020. Most of these markets declined. The latest report could be found here from the Smartphone Country Share Tracker (SCST) Service.

Indonesia, Thailand and Egypt were ranked the top three of the 45 markets that we tracked. Samsung continued to lead in 36 of the 45 markets in the quarter.

We expect the demand to shrink further in the coming quarters as COVID pandemic spreads. The 45 countries tracked include: Argentina, Algeria, Australia, Austria, Bangladesh, Belgium, Chile, Colombia, Denmark, Ecuador, Egypt, Finland, Ghana, Hong Kong, Hungary, Indonesia, Iran, Israel, Kenya, Malaysia, Morocco, Myanmar, Netherlands, Nigeria, Norway, Pakistan, Peru, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Switzerland, Sweden, Singapore, Taiwan, Tanzania, Thailand, Turkey, UAE, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Venezuela and Vietnam
