Xiaomi Bets Offline to Take on Samsung in India

by Rajeev Nair | Jan 24, 2018

A key component of Xiaomi’s success in India has been its online channel focus. The vendor was ranked just next to Samsung, for the second position in the Indian smartphone market in Q3 2017, per the report available here, from our Handset Country Share Tracker (HCST) Service.

The vendor though now is busy building up its offline channel for a sustainable competitive run to the top position in India. Samsung which has been the market leader for past several quarters has a strong retail network to cater to the sub-urban and rural demand in the country.

Xiaomi has been increasing the offline presence with its own Mi Home stores and also adding on more preferred retail partners. A more balanced channel strategy is increasingly being preferred by most leading smartphone vendors in India and all the more as they gain volumes. Detailed channel strategy and analysis by vendor in the Indian smartphone market is available here.
