Comio Debuts in India with three Smartphones

by Rajeev Nair | Aug 18, 2017

Comio launched three Smartphones in the Indian market with their retail availability in the coming two months. The Indian smartphone market declined by -2% YoY in Q2 2017, per our latest report available here from the Handset Country Share Tracker (HCST) Service.

The three devices Comio C1, S1 and P1 are being positioned in the entry and mid-price tier with their wholesale price as C1 (US$ 89), S1 (US$ 126) and P1 (US$ 140). The two price tiers off lately have witnessed significant growth in the Indian market. That apart the vendor is also bundling the devices with data offers from Reliance-Jio, enticing aftersales service and warranty for its devices.

However the Chinese vendor enters an already crowded smartphone market which is increasingly showing signs of consolidation. We at SA though opine that the timing of the entry could augur well for the vendor, as it would have devices on the retail shelves well into the festive season in India. The third quarter which typically is the strongest in the country is likely to witness significant spike in shipments after nearly three previous quarters of slow growth owing the demonetization first and followed by the roll out of GST.
