According to a new report from our
Country Share Tracker (CST) service, the
Indonesia government is introducing a new TKDN law to ensure 30% of high-end SMARTPHONES contain “local content” next year. The new rules are
complex and will deter, not help, smartphone production in the country. Compliance by 2017 will be a tough ask for vendors, and there is much
uncertainty surrounding the legislation. The push for “Made in Indonesia” phones is off to a bad start.
