According to the recently-published report, Global LTE Handset Vendor Shipments by Country: Q2 2016, under our Handset Country Share Tracker (HCST) service, India is cementing the world's 3rd largest 4G LTE handset market ranking in Q2 2016, only behind China and the US.

LTE handsets still accounted for less than 30% of all cellular phones shipped in the country in Q2 2016, but we are estimating the ratio to exponentially increase for the following 8 to 12 quarters, along with the bigger role of operators such as Reliance Jio in LTE smartphone distribution and the introduction of 4G LTE network across this country as well as the intensified competition among handset vendors such as Samsung, Reliance Jio, Lenovo-Motorola and Micromax.

Reliance Jio quickly rose to no. 2 LTE handset vendor in India with a meaningful market share during the quarter, mostly based on its affordable VoLTE-capable LYF brand smartphones such as Wind / Water / Flame series.
